Paid Work Experience
Career Preparation
The WIB accepts applications from Solano County Youth,
ages 14 - 21.
The WIB's Youth Programs help youth to achieve success on
the job and with educational goals. Each of the WIB's Youth
Programs has a specific funding grant, a limited number of
allowable enrollments, and an application process. The application
process for each program requires that applicants meet a specific
set of requirements as defined by the funding grant.
Whether you're in school, or out of school, we can assist
you in finding paid work experience, getting a better job,
or completing an education or occupational training program.
The four themes of the program, for those who qualify, are:

Our programs are designed to do more than just help you get
a job or complete your education. If you qualify, you may

Are You
Out of School?
The WIB offers specific employment occupational training,
educational and leadership opportunities for Youth who are
not in school
these are free programs and services to
those who qualify.
Special services are available for:

Youth who have dropped out of school |
|
|
Youth who have a High School diploma or
GED who need job search assistance, basic skills training,
or further training to earn a higher wage. |
Youth
Employment Program
The WIB offers PAID WORK EXPERIENCE to Youth, ages 14 - 18,
who are dependents in TANF/CalWORKs/AFDC households or foster
homes, or enrolled in the County's Cal-Learn program.
Youth receive a comprehensive group of services, which include
work experience, and Life Skills Workshops. Youth are typically
assigned to a job which requires them to work up to 25 hours
per week.
Jobs are available in a variety of occupations, such as clerical
assistant, recreation assistant, and maintenance assistant.
Youth are assigned to a WIB Employability Specialist, who
will work to match the Youth to the most appropriate job.

Youth
Advisory Council
The WIB's Youth Advisory Council is dedicated to building
a community-based support system designed to engage all youth
in career and workforce preparation and lifelong learning
that leads to stable employment.
The Youth Advisory Council is made up of representatives
of local employers, educational institutions, employment and
training agencies, juvenile justice agencies, social service
agencies, and local parents and youth who have experience
with the WIB's youth programs.

The WIB oversees and participates in the operations of the
Solano
Employment Connection, a group of local agencies, educational
institutions, and community-based organizations who cooperate
to provide free services to job seekers.
Whether you're looking for a full-time, part-time, or summer
job
deciding on an educational or training program, working
on a career plan, or you're out of school and you're not sure
what you want to do
you'll find what you need at the
Solano
Employment Connection. The Solano Employment Connection
is a group of local agencies that cooperate to provide free
services through Career Centers located
in Fairfield and Vallejo.
Career Centers offer many services for Youth
all you
have to do is drop in during the hours of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday
through Friday.

Search through Job Listings and get help
in writing your resume and preparing for a job interview. |

|
Employers often interview job candidates
on-site at the Career Center. |
|
|
Use computers with access to the Internet
for Online Job Search and Career Research and Planning. |
|
|
Free use of phones, fax-machine, and copier
to assist you with your job search. |
|
|
Talk to a job counselor about your job search,
or discuss career planning, and education & training
opportunities. |
|
|
Attend free workshops to learn more about
how to search for a job and other employment skills. |

Find out about special programs that are
available for Youth, ages 14-21
you may qualify for
one of these programs and receive financial assistance
with your job search or job training

You may attend free workshops that are held regularly at
the Career Centers. Learn how to identify job leads, complete
an application, and prepare a resume. Brush up on interview
skills and learn how to job search on the Internet. Workshops
are held at both the Fairfield and Vallejo Career Centers.

2) Attend an Orientation and take a tour.
3) Check out the Job Listings and special career planning
programs.
4) Pick up a copy of the Calendar of Events.
5) Sign up for a workshop or counseling session.
