About the Solano WIB

The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of Solano County was formed in 1982 as the "Private Industry Council of Solano County" under an agreement with the County of Solano. As the Private Industry Council, the agency administered workforce development programs under the federal Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). Leadership included representatives from private business, education, labor, health & human service agencies, community based organizations and other employment & training agencies.

In June 2000, the federal government enacted new legislation to replace JTPA, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The agency's name was changed to the Workforce Investment Board of Solano County, and programs were re-designed according to the new mandates under WIA.

The agency has broadened its impact on the local community by providing the basic programs that are funded by WIA, and expanding services to the general public through the development of the Solano Employment Connection Career
